A new club called Glimmer is slated to open its doors in Hamburg’s vibrant Oberhafen district in the coming months. The venue will occupy the space previously held by the influential club Moloch, promising to add a new dimension to the city’s cultural landscape.

Concept and Development

The project is the brainchild of Anton Burmester, Johann Kipping, and Luke Mehrhoff, who successfully presented their concept through a public tender. This initiative was organized by HafenCity Hamburg, Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, and the Oberhafen users’ association, as reported by Hamburger Aabendblatt. The trio is known for previously organizing the local party series, Synthetic Love.

Glimmer will be situated in a former railway shed, encompassing a total area of 548 square metres. This includes a spacious 296-square-metre main room and an additional 252 square metres dedicated to ancillary spaces. The venue is designed to accommodate up to 600 people, marking it as a significant addition to Hamburg’s nightlife and cultural scene.

Renovations and Facilities

Renovation work on the site has already commenced. A key focus of the refurbishment is extensive soundproofing, ensuring the venue is fully licensed for amplified music and other high-noise activities. This will allow Glimmer to host a diverse range of events without disturbing the surrounding area.

Beyond Nightlife: A Cultural Hub

The vision for Glimmer extends far beyond traditional club nights. The operators aim to create a comprehensive cultural centre that will host a variety of events, including curated club nights and events organized by external collectives. In addition, the programme will feature concerts, theatre performances, literary readings, and flea markets, catering to a broad audience with diverse interests.

Further enhancing its role as a cultural hub, the project will also include a dedicated studio and workshop space. The founders describe Glimmer as both a club and a vibrant cultural centre, emphasizing its commitment to fostering artistic expression and community engagement.

Future Announcements

While renovation work is underway, specific details regarding the official launch date and initial lineups are yet to be announced. Interested individuals are encouraged to follow Glimmer’s Instagram page for the latest updates and information. The anticipation is building for what promises to be a dynamic new venue in Hamburg’s ever-evolving cultural scene.
