New Pop-up Coffee Shop Brings Relief to Munich Central Station Travelers

Munich, February 13, 2026 – A new pop-up coffee shop, LAP Coffee, has commenced operations in the S-Bahn distribution level of Munich Central Station. This initiative, spearheaded by DB InfraGO AG, aims to provide a high-quality and affordable coffee offering for the numerous travelers passing through the station, especially in light of ongoing extensive construction work.

The temporary store is planned for an initial period of three months, extending until April. It represents a strategic move by Deutsche Bahn to test modern coffee concepts under real-world commuter conditions and to flexibly respond to the evolving needs of passengers.

Construction Reduces Retail Options, Increases Demand

The opening of LAP Coffee comes at a critical time for Munich Central Station. Significant construction projects, including the second S-Bahn main line and the new reception building, have led to the closure of numerous retail spaces around the cross-platform area. This has intensified the demand for additional services within the station.

“Our goal is to provide the many travelers at Munich Central Station with a good, high-quality, and at the same time affordable coffee offering,” stated DB InfraGO AG in a press release. The company acknowledges that the ongoing construction has temporarily exacerbated the supply situation for travelers, making the introduction of the new pop-up store a targeted response to these limitations.

Accessible Location and Flexible Pop-up Concept

The pop-up store is strategically located in the basement, offering an easily accessible and well-connected alternative. This approach aligns with Deutsche Bahn’s increasing reliance on pop-up formats in station development, which allows for the low-threshold introduction of new partners into railway stations.

Ralph Hage, founder of LAP Coffee, emphasized the importance of convenience for commuters, stating, “Many people don’t have time for detours in their daily lives.”

Three-Month Test Phase to Be Evaluated

Following the conclusion of the three-month test phase, DB InfraGO AG will conduct a comprehensive evaluation. This assessment will focus on various factors, including demand, economic viability, customer feedback, and the overall potential of the offering. The insights gained from this pilot project will inform future decisions regarding gastronomic services at Munich Central Station.

The pop-up concept is gaining traction as a flexible solution to address immediate needs and enhance the passenger experience during periods of infrastructural change. This temporary coffee shop aims to mitigate the impact of construction on travelers’ access to amenities, ensuring a more comfortable and convenient journey for daily commuters and visitors alike.
