Oktoberfest 2026: Security Guard Sought After Alleged Assault, Other Incidents Reported
Munich, September 20 – The 191st Oktoberfest, which began on September 19 and runs until October 4, has seen its first significant incidents, including an alleged assault by a security guard and injuries to several visitors. Police are actively searching for a security employee following an altercation that left a 28-year-old guest with minor injuries.
Security Guard Sought After Incident at Paulaner Tent
On Saturday evening, around 7:00 PM, an altercation reportedly took place at the exit of the Paulaner festival tent between a group of people and security personnel. During the incident, a security employee allegedly lifted a 28-year-old male guest over his shoulder and brought him to the ground. The guest hit his head and briefly lost consciousness, sustaining minor injuries.
A police spokesperson confirmed that authorities are now searching for the security employee involved. Video footage from the scene is also being reviewed to determine the exact sequence of events. An investigation for bodily harm has been initiated against the security guard. It remains unclear whether the individual is still deemed suitable to continue working as a security officer at the event.
Medical Incidents Include Facial Fracture and Epileptic Seizure
On the second day of the festival, the Aicher Ambulanz medical station was busy, reporting over 200 treatments. Among the cases was an approximately 80-year-old female visitor who suffered a facial fracture after experiencing circulatory collapse. According to the ambulance service, the cause was insufficient fluid intake. Additionally, a 37-year-old Oktoberfest waiter suffered an epileptic seizure in the morning and was subsequently transported for medical care.

- Sexual Harassment Arrest: Police provisionally arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of sexual harassment. Plainclothes officers observed the man allegedly exposing himself and touching several women with his genitals in the Schottenhammel festival tent on Saturday. The suspect was taken to the Wiesn police station, charged with sexual harassment, and released after police procedures. The Munich Criminal Police are conducting further investigations.
- Mayor Cancels Gay Sunday Tapping: Mayor Dominik Krause, who officially opened the Oktoberfest by tapping the first barrel on Saturday, had to cancel his appearance at Gay Sunday in the Bräurosl tent. A spokesperson for the Green Party politician stated that Krause experienced circulatory problems but emphasized it was “nothing serious.” He is expected to be fit again by Monday and stayed home as a precaution.
- Police Dance Macarena: Amidst the busy atmosphere, a video surfaced on Instagram showing several Munich police officers dancing to the cult hit “Macarena” on the Hackerbrücke, joined by Oktoberfest visitors. - Traditional Costume Parade Preparations: On Sunday morning, numerous police cordons were in place in central Munich as participants gathered for the traditional costume and riflemen’s parade. Approximately 8,600 participants, including richly dressed traditional costume groups, marching bands, riflemen, and fanfare groups, were set to take part in the parade, which commenced at 10:00 AM. The Bavarian Hunting Association also participated with hunting dogs and birds of prey, alongside elaborate floats from Munich breweries and traditional craft wagons.
