Berlin, August 3 – US satellite specialist Planet Labs is expanding its operations with a new high-tech campus in Berlin, Germany. The company announced plans to establish a 5,000-square-meter ‘European Space Hub’ in Berlin-Charlottenburg, consolidating development, construction, and mission operations under one roof. Investors reacted positively to the news, driving the company’s stock up by 7.39% on Monday.

High-Tech Production in Charlottenburg

The new Berlin facility will feature state-of-the-art clean rooms (ISO classes 6 and 7) and will be managed by the consulting firm Drees & Sommer. This hub will be crucial for assembling sensitive sensors and cameras for Planet Labs’ next generation of Pelican satellites, designed to provide near real-time Earth observations. These advanced satellites will enable more precise monitoring of infrastructure damage and natural disasters. The first launch of the new Pelican fleet is scheduled for late 2026.

Record Revenue and Robust Financials

This expansion is underpinned by strong financial performance. In the first fiscal quarter of 2027, Planet Labs reported a 42% increase in revenue, reaching $94.2 million. The order backlog saw an even more significant rise, climbing 72% year-over-year to over $906 million. The company also substantially boosted its liquidity, reporting cash reserves of $731 million, providing ample financial buffer for infrastructure development. Analysts view this financial strength as a critical advantage in the capital-intensive space sector.

Analysts See Significant Potential

Investment bank Wedbush initiated coverage of Planet Labs with a ‘Buy’ rating and a price target of $50, highlighting the company’s strategic position at the intersection of government space access and AI-powered data analytics. Needham also reaffirmed its ‘Buy’ rating, raising its price target to $53. After a roughly 30% decline in its stock price over the past four weeks, the shares have stabilized at 18.90 Euros. The market appears to interpret the Berlin location decision as a crucial signal for the future scalability of the business model.

The focus now shifts to the operational implementation in Europe. Planet Labs must demonstrate that the new factory can meet high production speed expectations before the planned launch of the Pelican fleet in late 2026.
