Berlin, March 29 – Two police officers sustained injuries yesterday afternoon during a car chase in the Westend area of Berlin’s Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. The incident involved multiple collisions between the suspect’s vehicle and the police car, as reported by the police.

Erratic Driving and Missing License Plates Initiated Pursuit

The pursuit began when a patrol car noticed the suspect’s erratic driving on the A100 autobahn, near the Knobelsdorffstraße exit. Officers also observed that the suspect’s vehicle was missing its license plates. According to police statements, the officers instructed the driver to pull over for a routine check.

Initially, the suspect complied, exiting the autobahn. However, he then accelerated sharply and fled the scene, initiating a high-speed chase through the city streets.

Violent Collision and Suspect’s Escape

During the subsequent chase, the suspect abruptly braked, causing the police patrol car to collide with the rear of his vehicle. In an attempt to block the suspect’s escape, a police officer maneuvered the patrol car alongside the fleeing vehicle. However, the suspect aggressively rammed the police car, managing to break free and escape.

The impact of the collision forced the police vehicle into a curb, rendering it inoperable. Both officers inside the patrol car were injured as a result of the crash and the collision with the suspect’s car. They were subsequently relieved from duty.

Ongoing Investigation into Multiple Offenses

The Berlin police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, which is being treated as an illegal motor vehicle race, flight from the police, and other related offenses. Authorities are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Further details regarding the suspect’s identity and the exact nature of the injuries sustained by the officers have not yet been released. The police have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in their ongoing investigation.

This incident highlights the dangers faced by police officers in the line of duty and the challenges involved in enforcing traffic laws and pursuing suspects in urban environments.
