Riesengebirgs-Trachtengruppe Munich: 75 Years of Preserving Tradition
Munich, Bavaria, Germany – From May 8th to 10th, 2026, the Riesengebirgs-Trachtengruppe Munich celebrated its 75th anniversary, drawing numerous guests from all over Germany. The three-day event was a testament to the group’s enduring commitment to preserving traditional customs and fostering community spirit.
A Weekend of Festivities and Fellowship
The celebrations kicked off on Friday with a convivial welcoming evening at the Augustiner-Keller. This initial gathering provided a valuable opportunity for members and guests to renew old friendships and forge new connections, setting a warm and inviting tone for the weekend’s events.
On Saturday, under radiant sunshine, the group showcased its vibrant traditions with a public performance on Munich’s iconic Marienplatz. Spectators were treated to a display of traditional folk dances and living customs. City Councillor David Süß conveyed the felicitations of the Lord Mayor, underscoring the city’s recognition of the group’s cultural contributions. Special applause was reserved for the flag-wavers from Linsengericht and the Glockenspiel-Trio from D’ Untersberger, whose performances added unique flair to the event.
Highlight: Festive Ceremony and Honorees
The pinnacle of the weekend was the festive ceremony held in a packed Augustiner-Keller. Uli Moll, the chairman of the Riesengebirgs-Trachtengruppe, reflected on the group’s rich and eventful history, emphasizing the strong sense of unity that has characterized the community for three-quarters of a century.
During the ceremony, several individuals were recognized for their exceptional dedication and service. Roberto Perlo, Nicole von Wulffert, and Werner Lachner were awarded the Silver Badge of Honor, while Veronika Moll received the Golden Badge of Honor from the Landsmannschaft Schlesien. Furthermore, Heinz Schindler and Erich Metzner were bestowed with honorary memberships, acknowledging their significant contributions to the group.
A Grateful Look Back and Forward
The anniversary weekend concluded on Sunday with a relaxed Weißwurstfrühstück (white sausage breakfast), a traditional Bavarian meal. Both the Riesengebirgs-Trachtengruppe and the Trachtengau München und Umgebung (Munich and Surroundings Traditional Costume Association) expressed their profound gratitude for a thoroughly successful celebration. They extended thanks to all the helpers, guests, and friends who contributed to making this special anniversary a memorable occasion.
