Sina Hochreiter is the New Munich Kindl 2026
Munich, June 7 – Sina Hochreiter, 27, has been officially presented as the new Munich Kindl 2026. The announcement was made by Festring München on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Viktualienmarkt. Hochreiter will serve as the ambassador for the state capital, representing Munich at various traditional events throughout the year.
Official Duties and Appearances
As the Munich Kindl, Sina Hochreiter will play a prominent role in several key Munich traditions. She will lead the procession of Oktoberfest landlords and the traditional costume and riflemen’s parade at the Oktoberfest. During the ceremonial “O’zapft is” (tapping of the first barrel) at the Oktoberfest, she will be seated on the wooden barrel tapped by Mayor Dominik Krause. Furthermore, she will deliver the prologue at the Brewer’s Day on June 20, 2026, before the young brewers are officially released. Her role also includes representing the city at numerous other events as its official ambassador.
A Lifelong Dream Fulfilled
The presentation on June 5, 2026, took place in the beer garden of her parents, Michaela and Dieter Hochreiter, at the Viktualienmarkt. This initial appearance included a trial ride in a side-saddle on the cold-blooded horse Schorsch, who appeared more nervous than Sina. Born and raised in Munich, Sina has harbored the dream of becoming the Munich Kindl since she was fourteen. Her academic background, with a degree in art history and history specializing in Bavarian history, underscores her deep understanding and appreciation for the customs and traditions of her hometown.
Strong Ties to Oktoberfest
Sina Hochreiter has a very close connection to the Munich Oktoberfest. Her paternal family has been represented as festival landlords at the Wiesn for over 40 years, meaning Sina grew up immersed in the Oktoberfest atmosphere. For the new Munich Kindl, the annual event is also a significant family gathering, as her mother comes from a large showman family. Since 2004, Sina has actively supported her parents’ businesses, including the Haxnbraterei Hochreiter, the beer garden at the Viktualienmarkt, and the Glühweinstadl at the Christkindlmarkt.
Official Introduction at the City Foundation Festival
Sina Hochreiter will be officially introduced to the Munich public on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the City Foundation Festival on Marienplatz. Following the official opening at 11:15 AM by Mayor Dominik Krause, the city will first bid farewell to the outgoing Munich Kindl, Franziska Inselkammer, who has held the office since 2024. To mark Sina Hochreiter’s inauguration, the Munich Oktoberfest musicians will perform the Munich Kindl Polka and the Munich Kindl March. She will make another appearance a week later on Marienplatz at the Brewer’s Day on June 20, 2026, where she will lead the procession at 10:30 AM.
Involvement with the Market Women’s Dance
Interestingly, Sina Hochreiter also takes on another role during Fasching (Carnival). This year, she participated for the first time in the famous Market Women’s Dance at the Viktualienmarkt on Shrove Tuesday. She has already announced her intention to participate again next year.
The New Munich Kindl Attire
The traditional attire, known as the “G’wand,” resembles a Benedictine habit. It is a custom-made garment, produced under the direction of Festring Vice President Josef M. Redl by the Master School for Fashion in Munich since 1999. This year, the costume was tailored by master tailors Sophie Fritz and Julia Türschmann. The horse, traditionally provided by the Spaten Brewery, comes with specially crafted ceremonial harness and a side-saddle. The cold-blooded stallion Schorsch is a French Percheron. The brewery horses from Spaten reside at the Zengerle-Hof in Neufahrn near Egling in the district of Wolfratshausen.
Festring Appoints the Munich Kindl
Festring München has been appointing young women from Munich as the Munich Kindl since 1938. The chosen women often come from the ranks of Oktoberfest landlords, showmen, or breweries. Notable past Munich Kindl include Ellis Kaut, the author of “Pumuckl,” in 1938; radio and television presenter Hannelore Fischer from 1979 to 1980; and current Oktoberfest landlords Stephanie Spendler (Löwenbräu Festzelt) from 1984 to 1986 and Silja Steinberg (Hofbräu Festzelt) from 1995 to 1998.
