Injured Teenager Assaults Paramedics in Pankow Ambulance
Berlin, February 20 – An injured 17-year-old male attacked emergency medical personnel on Thursday while being transported to a hospital in Pankow, Berlin. The incident resulted in two paramedics sustaining injuries, leading to their early termination of duty.
Violent Outburst During Transport
The incident occurred while paramedics were transporting the 17-year-old, who had a neck injury, to the hospital. During the journey, the teenager unexpectedly struck a 26-year-old paramedic. In response, the 41-year-old ambulance driver pulled over shortly after the Prenzlauer Promenade exit to assist his colleague. The teenager then bit the driver.
The paramedics managed to restrain the youth. Police officers were called to the scene and handcuffed the 17-year-old, accompanying the ambulance for the remainder of its journey to the hospital.
Paramedics Injured, Teenager Hospitalized
Upon arrival at the hospital, both paramedics received outpatient treatment for their injuries – a laceration and a bite wound – and were subsequently unable to continue their shift. A breathalyzer test administered to the teenager revealed a blood alcohol level of approximately 0.5 per mille.
The 17-year-old received medical treatment for his initial neck injury and was later admitted to a psychiatric ward. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
