Teenager Hit by Electric Shock Near Munich Airport, Train Services Disrupted
Moosburg, September 20 – A dramatic incident unfolded on Sunday evening near Moosburg, in the district of Erding, when a 16-year-old boy was struck by an electric shock. The teenager was reportedly riding on the outside of an RE2 train traveling towards Marktredwitz when the incident occurred. He subsequently fell from the train after being hit by the electric surge.
The youth was airlifted to a hospital. According to initial reports from a spokesperson for the Federal Police Directorate Munich, the teenager’s life is not believed to be in danger, although the full extent of his injuries is yet to be determined.
Train Line Closed, Munich Airport Services Affected
Following the incident, the railway section between Freising and Landshut was immediately closed. The disruption affected the RB3, RE2, and RE22 train lines, as reported on Deutsche Bahn’s disruption portal. Approximately 200 passengers were on board the affected train at the time of the accident, according to the federal police spokesperson.
The track closure also impacted train services to Munich Airport, preventing trains from Landshut from reaching the airport. Deutsche Bahn promptly arranged for a rail replacement service (SEV) using buses and large taxis. By shortly before 8:30 PM, the railway announced that the closure had been lifted and the SEV had been discontinued. However, residual delays were expected, with the Bahn’s disruption portal forecasting an end to restrictions around 9:30 PM.
Previous Disruptions to Airport Rail Traffic
Just hours before Sunday evening’s incident, accessing Munich Airport via public transport had already been challenging. This earlier disruption, however, originated from the south, affecting Munich’s S-Bahn lines. A suspicious object found on a platform at the airport caused delays and cancellations on the S1 and S8 lines, further complicating travel to and from the airport on Sunday.
The sequence of events underscores the vulnerability of public transport infrastructure to unforeseen incidents and the cascading effects they can have on regional connectivity, particularly for critical hubs like Munich Airport.
