Hamburg, September 12, 2026 – A public bus was targeted in a shooting incident at the Neugraben S-Bahn station on Friday evening. The police’s homicide commission and the public prosecutor’s office have commenced investigations into the event. A 17-year-old has been identified as a suspect.
Bus Damaged, No Injuries Reported
According to a spokesperson for the Hamburg police operations center, bullet holes were discovered in a window of a Line 251 bus traveling towards Finkenwerder. The window sustained significant damage, and an opposite window was shattered. Police officers examined the bus at the Neuwiedenthal stop, and a police dog was deployed to track scents. Authorities were alerted by witnesses who reported hearing gunshot-like noises.
Dispute Among Teenagers Preceded Shooting
Initial findings suggest that a dispute occurred at the station between three male teenagers and a 16-year-old girl. The young woman then sought refuge inside the bus. Shortly before the bus was about to depart, several witnesses reported hearing gunshots, according to police. Besides the driver and the 16-year-old, two other passengers were on board. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
The bus driver proceeded to the Neuwiedenthal S-Bahn station. By the time emergency services arrived, the three teenagers had already fled the scene. Police indicated that the suspects are believed to be 17, 15, and 14 years old.
Weapon Found in Suspect’s Basement
Police conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area with multiple patrol cars, initially without success. However, on Saturday morning, the residences of the suspects in the Neuenfelde and Bahrenfeld districts were searched. Special forces were involved in some of these operations. In the basement of the 17-year-old suspect, officers reportedly found a firearm, which was later identified as an air rifle, along with ammunition.
Suspects Allegedly Engaged in Target Practice
The 17-year-old is now under investigation on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. Furthermore, police are investigating him and his two companions for suspected violations of the Weapons Act. They are believed to have engaged in target practice with a firearm in the Königswiesen area (Neugraben-Fischbek) prior to the bus incident.
This incident highlights concerns about youth violence and illegal weapon possession in the region. Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the event and the extent of the suspects’ involvement.
