Major Traffic Accident on A115 Motorway in Berlin: Air Ambulance in Operation

Berlin, April 4, 2026 – The A115 urban motorway in Berlin’s Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district was completely closed for a period on Wednesday morning following a serious traffic accident. An air ambulance was called to the scene, landing directly on the motorway.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:19 AM on the AVUS section of the A115, heading towards the Funkturm. According to the fire department, a driver suffered a medical emergency, causing their vehicle to crash into the guardrail. Emergency services quickly responded, extricating the unconscious individual from the car and transferring them to paramedics. The person was transported to a hospital while resuscitation efforts were underway. Authorities have not released details regarding the individual’s identity.

Motorway Closures and Emergency Response

Due to the severity of the incident and the need for the air ambulance to land, the A115 was closed in both directions. This measure was crucial to ensure the safe landing and departure of the helicopter and to allow emergency personnel to work effectively. The accident took place in the Grunewald area.

Initially, the closure in the direction of the Funkturm triangle was lifted, with only the right lane remaining blocked. However, the closure in the opposite direction, between the Funkturm triangle and Spanische Allee, remained in effect for a longer period as police investigations into the exact cause of the accident commenced. The Berlin Police are leading the ongoing investigation.

Previous Incidents on the A100

This incident adds to a series of notable events on Berlin’s motorways. Earlier reports indicated a BMW driver was critically injured in a separate accident on the A100. Furthermore, the A100 was previously iced over due to a pipe burst, leading to its closure, and there was an unusual incident where a man threw cobblestones onto the A100, damaging six cars. These events highlight the dynamic and sometimes hazardous nature of urban traffic environments.

The deployment of an air ambulance for a medical emergency during a traffic accident underscores the critical nature of the situation and the rapid response required from Berlin’s emergency services. The temporary closure of a major artery like the A115 inevitably leads to significant traffic disruptions, impacting commuters and the city’s overall flow.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the preparedness of emergency responders to handle complex situations on the city’s busy motorways.
