Tourist Bus Overturns on A96: Two Fatalities, Many Injured
Munich, September 27, 2026 – A tourist bus carrying a Filipino travel group to Oktoberfest in Munich overturned on the A96 motorway yesterday morning, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to numerous others. The incident occurred between the Buchloe-Ost and Landsberg am Lech-West junctions, with no other vehicles involved.
The bus, operated by an Italian company, veered off the road to the right around 6:00 AM while traveling in the direction of Munich. It subsequently overturned and came to rest alongside a ditch next to the motorway.
Emergency Response and Casualties
Immediately following the accident, six individuals were transported to hospitals by rescue helicopters, with one person in critical condition. An additional two injured passengers were taken to clinics by ambulance. A collection point was established where 22 other individuals received initial care, several of whom were subsequently admitted to hospitals. Specific details regarding the identities of the victims and the severity of their injuries were not immediately available.
A large contingent of emergency services, including approximately 130 firefighters, 130 paramedics, and about 20 police officers, were deployed to the scene. The A96 motorway was fully closed in both directions for rescue and recovery operations.
Oktoberfest-Bound Group from Milan
The travel group, consisting of approximately 35 Filipino nationals, was en route from Milan to Munich to attend the Oktoberfest. Initial reports mistakenly stated the bus was traveling from Zurich to Milan. A spokesperson for the Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters clarified that establishing facts immediately after such an event is challenging due to the initial chaos.
The two bus drivers, one of whom was an Italian national and was at the wheel at the time of the accident, were unharmed.
Investigation into the Cause
The cause of the accident remains unclear. The public prosecutor’s office has commissioned an accident analysis report to determine the exact circumstances. “It is far too early to comment on the cause,” stated the police spokesperson, emphasizing that the immediate priority was the rescue and care of the injured.
