Berlin, May 10 – Commuters on Berlin’s U-Bahn lines U1, U3, and U4 can breathe a sigh of relief as renovation work at Nollendorfplatz station concludes on schedule today. As of tomorrow, Monday, May 11, 2026, the U1 and U3 lines will operate without interruption, and the U4 line will recommence service, as announced by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG).
Renovation of Nollendorfplatz Station Completed on Time
Since the beginning of January, the U1 and U3 lines have been unable to pass through Nollendorfplatz station due to extensive renovation work on the ceiling between the two lower levels. The U4 line, a shorter route, was entirely suspended during this period. The renovation necessitated opening the ceiling from above, which also involved removing tracks. Damages caused by moisture had previously affected the intermediate ceiling.
Impact on Commuters and the U2 Line
The above-ground U2 line remained unaffected by the construction. Consequently, many passengers had to switch to this connection in recent months, leading to significantly crowded trains. The BVG has successfully adhered to its self-imposed timeline for the completion of the construction work.
