Verdi Warning Strike in Munich: Emergency Schedule for MVG on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) – All Information

Munich, April 12 – The Verdi trade union has announced another warning strike for Tuesday, April 14, 2026, affecting public transport in Munich. This comes ahead of the fifth round of negotiations between Verdi and public transport employers. While some lines will still be operational, significant disruptions are expected across the city’s transport network.

Public Transport Affected: Subway, Tram, and MVG Bus Lines

According to the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG), the warning strike will primarily impact passengers using the subway (U-Bahn), tram, and bus lines up to number 199. The Munich S-Bahn, regional trains, and MVV regional bus lines will not be affected by the strike and will operate as usual.

All other modes of transport will operate on a reduced schedule. Private bus companies, which account for approximately half of Munich’s bus services, will not be striking and will continue to operate, ensuring a basic level of service. However, the MVG warns that connections on Tuesday will depend on passenger load and traffic conditions, and “major irregularities” are possible.

Prioritization of Tram Line 20 and Subway Line U6

Depending on the availability of personnel, some individual tram and subway lines may operate fully or partially. The MVG’s priority is to operate Tram Line 20 and Subway Line U6, at least in sections, if enough drivers are available. This approach is based on experiences from previous strike days.

MVG Recommends Alternative Transportation

The MVG advises passengers to consider alternative modes of transport, form carpools, or work from home if possible on the day of the strike. Regular operations are expected to resume on Wednesday, April 15, starting at 3:30 AM, once the strike is concluded.

Passengers can find up-to-date information on their connections on the MVG website and through the company’s app. This information will indicate which lines are currently operating. However, a specific exception applies to subway connections, which will not be displayed on the website or in the app. The MVG also notes that while a preliminary connection search can be performed, it does not guarantee that the chosen connection will actually run.

Verdi Defends Strike Action Amidst Negotiations

Haris Softić, District Department Secretary at Verdi Munich, stated in an interview with our editorial team that he hopes for a resolution in the fifth round of negotiations on Wednesday. He acknowledged the frustration of passengers, saying, “No one enjoys such a long strike.”

Nevertheless, Softić defended the union’s demands, emphasizing the need for both a salary increase and a reduction in working hours. He pointed to rising fuel and food prices, noting that pressure among Verdi members has increased in recent weeks. Softić believes that an “acceptable offer” from employers is necessary to successfully conclude the negotiations and anticipates an approximation between the two sides on Wednesday.

Customer Centers and Lost and Found Also Affected

In addition to public transport connections, the MVG’s two customer centers and the lost and found office may also be affected by the strike. The MVG guarantee does not apply in the event of a strike, meaning that reimbursement for subscriptions, tickets, and weekly or monthly passes will not be possible.

This strike in Munich is part of a broader series of warning strikes announced by Verdi across numerous Bavarian cities.
