Munich, August 23, 2026 – The wagnisART residential complex, located at Fritz-Winter-Straße 10-30 in Schwabing-Freimann, Munich, is more than just a modern housing development. This unique project brings together musicians, painters, actors, photographers, and various other creatives, fostering a collaborative environment through shared spaces and a common vision.
WagnisART: A Hub for Munich’s Creative Community
At first glance, wagnisART appears to be a contemporary residential quarter with 138 apartments. However, a closer look reveals a thriving artistic community. Residents, connected by wide bridges between buildings, share ideas, daily life, and a range of communal facilities designed to support their creative endeavors.
WagnisART is one of nine residential projects developed by the wagnis eG housing cooperative, known for its self-organized and self-managed house communities. This project is collectively owned by its members, who enjoy lifelong residency rights and fair, long-term rental rates.
State-of-the-Art Facilities for Artists
The heart of wagnisART is the Lihotzky event hall, a versatile space that hosts concerts for up to 200 attendees. In addition to the concert hall, there is a communal room for celebrations, workshops, and resident meetings. Even the laundry café transcends its functional purpose, designed as a social hub with a café-like atmosphere, promoting interaction and saving space.
The rehearsal rooms are particularly dynamic. Three studios of varying sizes are available to musicians, complemented by a professionally equipped recording studio. These facilities are utilized by both residents and external artists. Frank Schneider, a musician and wagnisART resident, coordinates the use of these spaces, emphasizing trust as a core principle of the project.
“We want to give people the opportunity to make music – uncomplicated, but organized. External musicians get fixed times. This way, we maintain an overview and at the same time, a very trusting collaboration emerges,” Schneider stated.
Well-Equipped Rehearsal Spaces Foster Creativity
The studios are well-equipped with drums, PA systems, microphone stands, and electric pianos, some acquired communally and others provided by residents. “Many simply make their own equipment available to everyone. It works here because people handle it responsibly,” Schneider added.
Regular users include Munich bands such as Cosmica Bandida and Zero Zero, along with numerous other formations, singer-songwriters, and music teachers. Schneider personally manages the booking schedule. “In addition to numerous musicians who practice their instruments or give music lessons, we now have six bands that rehearse here permanently. The whole thing is meant to remain personal. That’s why we regulate many things directly and not anonymously via some booking system.”
A Unique Vinyl Sampler Born from Community
The creativity within the wagnisART community extends beyond the rehearsal room doors. The diverse musical projects have even led to the creation of a dedicated vinyl sampler, “wagnisART – Volume 1.” This album exclusively features musicians who live or have lived at wagnisART, including Antun Opic, Cosmica Bandida, Mareike Kirchner, Lisov FM, Sonja Ebert, Michael Bach, OansNo, Gretes Töchter, and LATS, Frank Schneider’s own band.
Beyond music, residents also share workshops, studios, and many other facilities, collaborating on painting, crafting, and organizing events. This culture of sharing is central to the wagnisART philosophy, creating opportunities and spaces that would be financially challenging for individuals to secure in a city where living space is scarce and expensive.
