Kühtai, Austria – A snowboarder from Berlin has died in an avalanche in Austria. The 49-year-old man was with two other snowboarders on a slope in Kühtai, Tyrol, near a dam wall when a slab of snow broke loose. The Berliner was completely buried, while another winter sports enthusiast was partially buried with his head protruding from the snow. The third man remained unharmed.

Rescue teams were only able to locate the buried snowboarder after two and a half hours. Unfortunately, all efforts to save him were in vain. According to the police, the snowboarders were not carrying any emergency equipment, which significantly hampered the rescue operation.
