Munich, April 11 – A significant roof fire in the Neuhausen/Nymphenburg district has prompted a large-scale operation by the Munich fire department. The incident, which occurred on Prinzenstrasse, led to the evacuation of the building’s residents. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, but firefighters anticipate considerable damage to the property.
Alarm Escalated: Multiple Fire Brigades on Site
The Munich fire department confirmed that the alarm for the roof fire was escalated, requiring the deployment of additional fire brigades. Initially, several units responded to the scene, and further resources were requested as the situation developed. Currently, three fire brigades are actively engaged in extinguishing the blaze.
A spokesperson for the fire department highlighted the challenges faced by the crews. The presence of extensive insulation material within the roof structure is making it difficult to fully extinguish the fire and reach smoldering pockets. This complicates the operation and is expected to prolong the firefighting efforts.
Difficulties in Extinguishing Due to Insulation Material
“The problem is that a lot of insulation material makes it currently difficult to extinguish the fire and get to the smoldering pockets,” stated the fire department spokesperson. He added that it would take “a considerable amount of time” before the fire could be completely brought under control.
The fire department’s primary focus remains on containing the blaze and ensuring the safety of the surrounding area. The quick evacuation of residents was a crucial step in preventing any casualties.
