Munich, May 14, 2026 – The North has once again docked in Munich: With an atmospheric opening ceremony held on Wednesday, the 27th Hamburg Fish Market on Wittelsbacherplatz was officially inaugurated. Until May 25, 2026, the square in the heart of the city will be transformed into a maritime meeting point, offering North German flair, culinary specialties, and a lively musical entertainment program. Numerous visitors attended the opening, creating a true harbor festival atmosphere between Bavaria and the North Sea coast.

Official Opening and Musical Highlights

The opening ceremony was hosted by Stefan Wolter, a moderator and speaker who charmingly guided the audience through the program. Nordic vocal performances by Tanja Steiling provided musical entertainment, while disco legend Linda Jo Rizzo evoked memories of the great nights of the disco era with her cult hit “Passion.”

The Fish Market was officially opened by City Councilor Dr. Evelyne Menges, who, in her speech, honored the long-standing connection between Hamburg and Munich. Among the guests were numerous friends of the Fish Market, as well as representatives from politics and society.

Culinary Delights from the North Sea

In its 27th year, the Hamburg Fish Market remains true to its culinary traditions. The offerings include fresh fish sandwiches, exquisite fish salads prepared according to traditional recipes, fried fish, redfish, and plaice, as well as Flammlachs (flame-grilled salmon), oysters, shrimp, and fish and chips. Langos and other specialties also complement the gastronomic mile. Visitors wishing to take a taste of the North home with them can purchase fresh eel, salmon, or crabs directly on-site. These delicacies can be paired with a cool beer or selected wines from the wine merchant.

Live Music and Entertainment

In addition to the culinary highlights, music once again plays a significant role. Daily from 4:00 PM, visitors can expect a diverse live program featuring artists such as Hannes Kröger, the singing sailor, Gerhart Lewert with his barrel organ, and the Nordic Schlager pearl Tanja Steiling. Wittelsbacherplatz will once again become a place for communal celebration, swaying, and enjoyment.

Event Details and Opening Hours

The Hamburg Fish Market in Munich will run until May 25, 2026, inclusive. It is open from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and on Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

The event is a testament to the enduring appeal of North German culture and cuisine in Bavaria, offering a unique experience for locals and tourists alike. The organizers anticipate another successful year, building on the market’s long-standing tradition and popularity.
