An 18-year-old pedelec rider was seriously injured on Tuesday evening in Neuperlach after being struck by a car. The incident occurred around 7:35 PM on the cycle path of Therese-Giehse-Allee when an Alfa Romeo, emerging from Heinz-Hilpert-Straße, failed to yield to the e-bike rider at the intersection.
E-Bike Rider Sustains Multiple Fractures and Lung Injury
The collision caused the 18-year-old to be thrown into the air, resulting in multiple fractures and a lung injury. Traffic police suspect that the 19-year-old Alfa Romeo driver was traveling at excessive speed from the side street, given the extent of the accident’s consequences.
Car Damages Six Parked Vehicles After Collision
Following the initial impact with the e-bike rider, the Alfa Romeo continued across the intersection into Fritz-Kortner-Bogen, where it collided with six parked cars. Three of these vehicles sustained such severe damage that they had to be towed from the scene. One car was declared a total loss, as was the Alfa Romeo involved in the accident.
Investigation Underway to Determine Exact Cause
Authorities are currently investigating the precise circumstances surrounding the accident, including the speed of the Alfa Romeo and the exact sequence of events that led to the collision. The focus remains on establishing how the driver of the car failed to observe the e-bike rider’s right of way.
Community Concerns Over Road Safety
This incident raises concerns among local residents about road safety, particularly at intersections and on cycle paths in the Neuperlach area. Calls for increased vigilance and adherence to traffic rules are expected as the community processes the severity of this accident.
