Former NHL Star Dominik Kahun Returns to EHC Red Bull Munich

Munich, May 29, 2026 – EHC Red Bull Munich has announced the return of a familiar face to their roster: Dominik Kahun. The 30-year-old national team player is rejoining the Red Bulls after an eight-year absence, transferring from the Swiss top-tier club Lausanne HC. Kahun will once again don his former jersey number 21.

A Triumphant Return to Home Ice

Kahun previously played for EHC Red Bull Munich from 2014 to 2018, during which time he secured three consecutive German championships with the team. In 206 DEL games for the Red Bulls, the technically skilled left-winger amassed 149 points (48 goals, 101 assists) before making the leap to the NHL.

Christian Winkler, Managing Director Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey, expressed immense excitement about Kahun’s return: “We, the entire Red Bull organization, are incredibly happy about Dominik’s return. Contact has never been lost over the years, and Dominik has always spoken of home in connection with the Red Bulls. When the opportunity arose to bring Dominik back in his prime hockey age, we pulled out all the stops to make it happen. It required a lot of patience, but both sides signaled from the beginning that they absolutely wanted it. His goals and our goals, to be successful as a team, have never changed. His playing class, his speed, and his experience will help the entire team.”

Dominik Kahun himself shared his enthusiasm: “It feels like a big and emotional homecoming. It’s the perfect time for me and my family to put down roots here. I feel proud and incredibly excited to be back here and to be able to play in Munich. I already get goosebumps when I think about my first game in the new arena and stepping onto the ice in front of the fans again. I have big goals with the club, and I think I speak for the whole team when I say: I want to lift a trophy here again.”

A Distinguished Career: From NHL to International Stage

Following his success in Munich, Kahun moved to the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL in 2018. In his rookie season, he played all 82 regular-season games. He later played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, and Edmonton Oilers, accumulating 188 NHL games and 83 points.

In 2021, Kahun transitioned to the Swiss National League (NL), joining SC Bern. He consistently ranked among the league’s top offensive players for several years, recording 168 points in 211 NL games. In the 2023/24 season, he led the highest Swiss league with 35 assists. Most recently, the German national player was under contract with Lausanne HC.

Kahun has also been a pivotal player for the German national team for many years, having played 116 international matches. He has participated in eight World Championships and three Olympic Games. His notable achievements with the national team include winning the Olympic silver medal in Pyeongchang in 2018 and World Championship silver in 2023.
