Berlin, June 1, 2026 – The JW Marriott Hotel Berlin announces a significant leadership change with the appointment of Michael Hopf as its new General Manager. Hopf, a native Berliner, brings a wealth of international experience and a distinguished career spanning over 25 years in the luxury hotel sector.
Leadership Transition at JW Marriott Hotel Berlin
Michael Hopf steps into his new role following Arne Klehn, who previously served as General Manager of the JW Marriott Hotel Berlin. Klehn is transitioning to a new position as Complex General Manager in Hamburg, where he will oversee both the Hamburg Marriott Hotel and the Renaissance Hamburg Hotel.
Hopf’s return to Berlin marks a significant milestone in his career, as he takes on a leadership position in his hometown for the first time. “After many years abroad, being back in Berlin also has a personal meaning for me. I look forward to actively shaping the further development of the JW Marriott Hotel Berlin together with the team,” says Michael Hopf.
A Career Defined by International Excellence
Michael Hopf’s extensive career in hospitality began in 1998 at the prestigious Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin. There, he held various guest service positions, including Concierge, Doorman, and Bellman. This foundational experience laid the groundwork for his international journey, which included stints in renowned destinations such as St. Moritz and Lake Como.
In 2007, Hopf moved to the Hotel Baltschug Kempinski in Moscow, where he led a 35-member team as Chief Concierge. During this time, he also regularly assumed operational responsibilities as Front Office Manager and Manager on Duty, showcasing his versatility and leadership capabilities.
His progression into senior management began in 2011 at the Kempinski Hotel Badamdar in Baku. As Executive Assistant Manager, he occasionally served as Acting Hotel Manager, taking full responsibility for operations, including Rooms, Spa, and extensive Food & Beverage offerings.
In 2013, Hopf returned to Moscow, joining the Hotel Nikolskaya Kempinski as Executive Assistant Manager – Rooms. He was a key member of the pre-opening team, contributing significantly to the hotel’s operational setup. Subsequently, he played a crucial role in the hotel’s transformation into a St. Regis brand, actively participating in the implementation of new brand standards and the enhancement of the gastronomic offerings. These experiences were instrumental in shaping his approach to service quality and operational development within complex hotel structures.
Before his return to Berlin, Michael Hopf spent time in Warsaw, first as Hotel Manager at The Westin Warsaw in 2016, and then as its General Manager a year later. In this role, he managed both the operational and economic development of the property and spearheaded comprehensive investment and renovation projects.
Hopf has also continuously pursued professional development, completing an Executive MBA at ESMT Berlin and participating in international programs focused on leadership and negotiation.
Future Vision for JW Marriott Hotel Berlin
The JW Marriott Hotel Berlin, which rebranded under the JW Marriott flag in 2023, is renowned for its international service culture and prime location between Tiergarten and Potsdamer Platz. It stands as a leading venue in Berlin’s event segment. Michael Hopf’s appointment is expected to drive the hotel’s continued development and strengthen its competitive position, particularly concerning planned modernization initiatives.
In addition to Hopf’s appointment, Alfred Haddad assumed the position of Hotel Manager at the JW Marriott Hotel Berlin in early May 2026. Haddad brings international experience from various leadership roles within Marriott, most recently as Hotel Manager at the Marriott Marquis City Center Doha.
This dual leadership reinforcement underscores the JW Marriott Hotel Berlin’s commitment to maintaining its status as a premier destination in the German capital.
