Excavator Damages Heating Pipe: Up to 500 Households in Southeast Berlin Without Hot Water
Berlin, June 16 – The hot water supply for numerous households in southeast Berlin has been interrupted due to damage to a pipeline of the Neukölln district heating plant. Up to 500 households are currently without hot water, a spokeswoman for the plant told Tagesspiegel this evening.
Fifty transfer stations, which supply residential units, have failed. Initially, the company had assumed up to 1,000 affected households.
Affected Areas and Repair Duration
The Emser Straße, Oderstraße, and Silbersteinstraße, as well as larger areas around Kranoldstraße, Germaniapromenade, and Mariendorfer Weg, are currently without hot water. The district heating supply itself is not affected, the spokeswoman said.
The disruption could last up to two days. Teams from the district heating plant are working with “high pressure” to fix the problem, according to a statement.
Cause of the Disruption
According to the company, the cause of the disruption is excavation work. An excavator damaged a supply line of the heating plant at the intersection of Hermannstraße and Emser Straße. In an initial statement, only damage caused by external influence had been mentioned.
