Harley Days Parade Canceled Due to Extreme Heat in Hamburg
Hamburg, June 26 – Motorcycle enthusiasts attending the Hamburg Harley Days will miss out on the large Sunday parade this year. The decision to cancel the tour was announced on Thursday evening, citing concerns over the expected extreme heat.
Thousands of bikers are once again expected in the Hanseatic city this weekend. Organizers had previously estimated around 60,000 visitors and approximately 20,000 motorcycles for the three-day event. However, the cancellation of the Sunday parade means one of the main attractions will not take place. “Safety and health come first!” the organizers stated on Thursday evening.
The approximately 32-kilometer-long city tour was expected to feature celebrities such as actors Till Demtröder and Jan Sosniok. Last year, around 6,000 bikers participated in the parade, which was led by Peter Maffay.
Heart of the Harley Days: Harley Village
The core of this year’s Harley Days is the Harley Village on the wholesale market site, featuring stages for live music, stunt shows, a dealer mile, and a large exhibition area dedicated to tattoos. For the first time, the Harley Days will include the “Sisters’ Corner,” a meeting point for women in the motorcycle scene. Also new is a collaboration with the Motorcycle Church Service. “MOGO” pastor Ulrike Egener will hold a service on the main stage before the parade.
Half Marathon Also Canceled
In addition to the Harley Days, another major event was planned for Sunday in Hamburg. However, due to the anticipated heat, the Hamburg Half Marathon was also canceled by organizers on Wednesday. A new date has not yet been set.
Tropical Temperatures in the North: Extreme Heat Warning
Temperatures in many areas rose above 35 degrees Celsius on Friday. Today and tomorrow, some parts of Northern Germany could experience temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius. The 32nd Hamburg Half Marathon will not take place as planned on Sunday due to the expected extreme temperatures.
