Double Misfortune: Seriously Injured Patient Involved in Ambulance Crash in Munich

Munich, July 1 – An ambulance transporting a seriously injured patient to a Munich clinic was involved in a collision with a Mini at an intersection in Munich-Milbertshofen on Tuesday evening. The driver of the small car reportedly failed to notice the emergency vehicle’s siren and blue lights, according to police.

Ambulance with Blue Lights and Siren

The 31-year-old ambulance driver had activated the blue lights and siren on the Mercedes Sprinter. The ambulance was traveling city-bound on Lerchenauer Straße, carrying a 17-year-old patient who had been seriously injured in a previous accident. The emergency vehicle was en route to a hospital.

Collision at the Intersection

Simultaneously, a 76-year-old woman from Munich was driving her Mini on Moosacher Straße towards Frankfurter Ring. According to police, the 76-year-old entered the intersection on a green light, apparently having overlooked the ambulance’s siren.

Two More Ambulances Dispatched

The 17-year-old patient was reportedly not further injured in the second accident. A replacement ambulance transported him to the hospital. Another emergency vehicle was requested to transport the Mini driver, who also sustained injuries. The traffic police have initiated further investigations to reconstruct the accident.

The incident highlights the critical importance of road users being attentive to emergency vehicles, even when traffic signals indicate a right of way. While the ambulance was operating with activated emergency signals, the Mini driver’s failure to perceive them led to this unfortunate collision.

This event serves as a reminder for all drivers to remain vigilant and to yield to emergency vehicles, ensuring their safe passage to critical situations. The police investigation will aim to determine the precise sequence of events and any contributing factors to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The initial accident that caused the 17-year-old’s severe injuries was not detailed in the report, but the subsequent ambulance crash further complicated an already critical situation. The quick response of additional emergency services ensured that both injured individuals received prompt medical attention.

Local authorities are expected to review the circumstances of the collision, potentially leading to recommendations for enhanced road safety measures or public awareness campaigns regarding yielding to emergency vehicles.
