Thousands Converge on Hamburg’s Stadtpark for Run5 Team Relay
Hamburg, August 20 – The annual Run5 Team Relay in Hamburg’s Stadtpark once again saw a massive turnout, with approximately 10,000 participants registered for the two-day event. Held on Wednesday and Thursday, the popular relay race brought together numerous teams from companies, clubs, and groups of friends.
Event Structure and Participant Experience
Each team consisted of five runners, with each individual completing a five-kilometer stretch. The unique aspect of the Run5 relay is that only the cumulative time of the entire team is considered for scoring, fostering a strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie among participants. The first starting gun fired at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, marking the beginning of the competitive yet festive atmosphere.
Runners were provided with water at a refreshment station approximately halfway through the course. Following the race, each team received a picnic basket filled with provisions, a tradition that encourages participants to gather and celebrate their achievements together in the scenic Stadtpark.
Charity Initiative Supports Stadtpark
Beyond the athletic challenge, the Run5 Team Relay also incorporated a significant charitable component. All registered teams had the option to book a ‘Charity Start Place’ for an additional fee of 5 Euros per person. This initiative meant that 25 Euros per team were donated directly to the Hamburger Stadtparkverein e.V., contributing to the maintenance and development of the beloved urban green space.
Continued Popularity and Future Outlook
The event’s popularity remains consistently high, with both days of the relay selling out prior to the event, mirroring the success of previous years. In 2025, the event also saw 2,000 teams and 10,000 runners participate, underscoring its established appeal within the Hamburg community.
