Hamburg, September 15 – A 14-year-old was shot and a 20-year-old sustained a stab wound in an incident that occurred Sunday evening at a cultural association in Ottensen. Following the event, the Police Union (GdP) is urging the Senate to implement a new program aimed at preventing youth crime, emphasizing a clear message to young people.
Two Injured in Ottensen Incident
The incident, which took place on Friedensallee in Ottensen, left two individuals injured. According to NDR Hamburg, the 14-year-old was shot in the leg, while the 20-year-old suffered a stab wound to the buttocks. Hamburg police have confirmed that neither individual is in life-threatening condition.
GdP Proposes “Quick Money, Real Price” Program
In response to the escalating concerns about youth involvement in criminal activities, the GdP is proposing a program titled “Quick Money, Real Price.” This initiative aims to educate young people about the recruitment tactics of criminal gangs and the severe consequences of violence, including imprisonment, debt, serious injury, and even death. The union plans to target schools, youth welfare services, and social media platforms, where young individuals often seek role models.
Nationwide Surge in Gun Violence
Lars Osburg, head of the GdP, stated that while the motive behind the Ottensen incident remains unclear, it highlights the increasing proximity of gun violence to young people. “When weapons, violence, quick money, and criminal power are staged as signs of success, we must not accept it with a shrug,” Osburg remarked. The union’s own count reveals at least 29 incidents involving live gunfire across Germany within a four-week period. This follows a recent discovery by Hamburg police, who found a loaded firearm on a man during a routine traffic stop.
Details of the Cultural Association Attack
The 14-year-old was inside the cultural association at the corner of Friedensallee and Bergiusstraße shortly before 10:30 PM when two masked men appeared and fired multiple shots, hitting him in the thigh. Paramedics provided initial treatment at the scene before the teenager was transported to the hospital. Shortly thereafter, police officers, during their search on Friedensallee, located the 20-year-old with a knife still embedded in his buttocks. Preliminary findings suggest he was also present at the cultural association at the time of the incident. Despite extensive searches around the crime scene, the perpetrators remain at large.
Police Suspect Drug-Related Dispute
Police believe a prior dispute may have triggered the attack. According to NDR information, this could be linked to an altercation within the drug milieu.
