Munich Angler Crowned Bavarian Fishing King with 12-Kilo Grass Carp
Allershausen, September 16 – Raphael Kiener, representing the Munich District Fishing Association, has been officially named the new Upper Bavarian Fishing King. Kiener achieved this prestigious title by catching a remarkable 12.178-kilogram grass carp during the King’s Fishing competition held in Allershausen.
The Competition and Participants
The event saw the participation of 37 qualified anglers from various associations across Upper Bavaria. The competition took place in six ponds managed by the Anglerclub Wasserfreunde München. Anglers successfully caught a diverse range of fish, including perch, pike, and both mirror and common carp, in addition to grass carp.
Top Placements
Raphael Kiener’s impressive grass carp secured him the first-place position. Jeffrey Reichenbächer of the Oberilmtal Fischer took second place with a 5.690-kilogram common carp. Johannes Niggl from the Lenggries Fishing Association claimed third place with a 4.752-kilogram pike.

Following the competition, Kiener was formally presented with the King’s Chain and officially recognized as the new Upper Bavarian Fishing King during a festive ceremony.
Upper Bavarian Fishing Day 2026
The King’s Fishing competition was a central part of the Upper Bavarian Fishing Day 2026, which attracted approximately 300 guests. Attendees included representatives from angling clubs, as well as experts from scientific, economic, administrative, and political sectors, all gathered in Allershausen.
In addition to the angling competition, the event featured specialized lectures and an accompanying exhibition. Topics discussed included fish migration patterns, the presence of PFAS in edible fish, the goosander, and the ongoing digitalization of the fishing industry and angling associations.
