Munich, September 28, 2026 – Just one day after the national Olympic decision, Munich experienced ‘Olympic Imperial Weather’ as the 10th Outdoorsportfestival in Olympiapark drew an impressive crowd. Under radiant sunshine and summer temperatures, at least 50,000 Munich residents gathered to celebrate the festival’s anniversary with a diverse program of activities, emphasizing movement and good spirits.
A Decade of Community Sport Celebrated
Mayor Verena Dietl highlighted the festival’s enduring appeal: “For ten years, the Outdoorsportfestival has demonstrated the joy that communal sport can bring. I am delighted that so many Munich residents once again seized the opportunity to try out new sports and be active together for this anniversary. This is precisely what defines Munich as a city of sport: diverse, low-threshold offerings that bring people together and inspire a desire for movement.”
The festival offered a vast selection of over 60 activities, catering to a wide range of interests. Participants could engage in everything from biking, bouldering, and archery to ice climbing, footvolley, yoga, Qi Gong, cricket, and pickleball.
Sports for All: A Diverse Program
Sports Director Florian Kraus emphasized the festival’s role in promoting an active lifestyle: “The Outdoorsportfestival perfectly combines what makes Munich a city of sport: movement, encounters, and the desire to try new things. When so many Munich residents are active together and discover completely different sports, a very special atmosphere is created. The fact that the festival still generates so much enthusiasm after ten years is a strong signal for sport in our city.”
Organized by the Department for Education and Sport and Olympiapark München GmbH, the event ran for eight hours across seven locations within Olympiapark. The motto, “Be there and discover your (outdoor) sport,” was embraced by attendees. Clubs, associations, and institutions presented a variety of participatory activities, demonstrations, and infotainment, which were met with great enthusiasm and joy from the visitors.
