A100 and A111 in Berlin: Closures and Traffic Jams Expected
Berlin, July 21, 2026 – Motorists in Berlin will need to exercise patience and plan alternative routes this week, as significant closures are scheduled for two major highways: the A100 and the A111. These disruptions are due to bridge measurement work and essential tunnel maintenance, respectively, and are expected to cause considerable traffic delays.
Full Closure on A100 for Bridge Measurements
The A100 urban motorway will be subject to a full closure in both directions between the Detmolder Straße and Konstanzer Straße junctions. This closure is scheduled to take place on the night of Thursday, July 23, from 10 PM, until Friday, July 24, at 5 AM. The Autobahn GmbH announced that these measures are necessary for surveying work on the bridge over Mecklenburgische Straße.
According to the statement, the surveying work will be carried out using state-of-the-art and specialized laser equipment. This advanced technology requires the bridge to be absolutely free of vibrations, making a full closure during the measurement process unavoidable.
Maintenance Work on A111 Tunnels
In addition to the A100 closure, the A111 highway will also experience traffic restrictions. These will occur on the night of Monday, July 20, into Tuesday, July 21, and again on the night of Thursday, July 23, into Friday, July 24. During both periods, from 9 PM to 5 AM, the highway will be closed in both directions between the Waidmannsluster Damm and Schulzendorfer Straße junctions.
The traffic information center (VIZ) Berlin has indicated that these closures are for essential maintenance work within the Beyschlagsiedlung and Forstamt Tegel tunnels. Drivers will be directed via a marked diversion route, which includes Ruppiner Chaussee, Hennigsdorfer Straße, Heiligenseestraße, and Karolinenstraße to Waidmannsluster Damm, or vice versa.
Motorists are strongly advised to allow for extra travel time and consider public transport options during these periods to avoid significant delays. Updates on traffic conditions will be provided by local traffic news outlets.
