ALBA BERLIN and BKK firmus Join Forces to Promote Kindergarten Sports in Berlin
Berlin, July 8, 2026 – Kindergarten children in Berlin have a new reason to cheer as ALBA BERLIN and BKK firmus announce a new partnership that will bring weekly sports activities to approximately 2,400 children in around 50 kindergartens across the city. This collaboration, set to commence in the 2026/27 school year and run until 2029, marks a significant step in promoting health and physical activity among young children.
The partnership between Germany’s most successful basketball club and BKK firmus, a health insurance company with over 1.1 million policyholders, aims to provide comprehensive sports programs, supporting early childhood development and fostering a lifelong love for movement.
Importance of Early Childhood Sports Emphasized by ALBA BERLIN
Svenja Brunckhorst, Manager for Girls’ and Women’s Basketball at ALBA BERLIN, highlighted the critical role of early exposure to sports. “From ALBA’s experience, it is incredibly important that children find their way to sports and movement as early as possible. Through our kindergarten units, we can impart essential basic motor skills. This lays the foundation for an active life for the kids. We are very pleased to have BKK firmus as a new strong partner for kindergarten sports,” Brunckhorst stated.
ALBA BERLIN coaches will lead weekly movement sessions at educational institutions in various Berlin districts, including Pankow, Wedding, and Gropiusstadt. These programs are designed not only to assist educators in their daily routines but also to introduce children to sports and offer clear health-preventative benefits. The initiatives will be conducted in tandem with kindergarten staff.
BKK firmus Commits to Social Engagement and Health Promotion
Dirk Harrer, Board Member of BKK firmus, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the partnership, recognizing ALBA BERLIN’s long-standing commitment to health and movement for children. “ALBA BERLIN is more than just one of Europe’s most successful basketball clubs. For many years, the club has been promoting health and movement for kindergarten children throughout Berlin. This social commitment impresses us greatly. Together with ALBA BERLIN, we want to further advance and optimize these projects as a strong and reliable health partner, offering sustainable and tangible added value. And not just for the children, but also for their parents and the educators at the participating kindergartens,” Harrer remarked.
He further emphasized, “Promoting health is a societal task – and we naturally want to live up to our responsibility as a health insurance company and our shared role model function with ALBA BERLIN.”
Comprehensive Support and Training Initiatives
The support from BKK firmus will also facilitate multiplier training for enhanced sports and movement activities in kindergartens, along with other extensive training programs. These initiatives aim to empower educators with the knowledge and skills to integrate more physical activity into daily kindergarten life, ensuring a lasting impact on children’s development.
A Collaborative Effort Facilitated by Infront Germany
The partnership was formed in cooperation with the sports marketing agency Infront Deutschland. Marco Sautner, Managing Director of Infront Germany, commented on the synergy between the two organizations. “With ALBA BERLIN and BKK firmus, two partners come together whose objectives complement each other perfectly. Both share the ambition to make a long-term social contribution through their commitment to movement and health promotion, and to create sustainable structures. This shared understanding provides the best conditions for a successful collaboration,” Sautner explained.
