Berlin, June 26 – The Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Berlin (KV) has announced it will discontinue its program for financially supporting the establishment or takeover of medical practices in three East Berlin districts, effective next year. This move is a direct consequence of the GKV savings law, championed by Federal Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU), which aims to stabilize contributions to statutory health insurance (GKV).
KV Reacts to GKV Savings Law
The decision by the KV Berlin directly impacts Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Treptow-Köpenick, and Lichtenberg, areas previously identified as having a shortage of resident doctors. Historically, the KV provided grants of up to 70,000 euros for new practice establishments, takeovers, or the creation of branch practices. This funding mechanism will now be abolished.
“The savings proposals are already questioning the desired primary care system,” stated the KV in its announcement. The organization emphasized that general practitioners, who are supposed to play a key role in this system, are being overwhelmed by bureaucracy and a lack of resources for additional staff. Simultaneously, psychotherapists and specialists face honorarium cuts.
