Hamburg, March 20 – The Child Protection Association officially opened its new Child Protection Center location in Hamburg-Altona on Friday. For 36 years, the center has provided crucial assistance to children and families impacted by violence. The move to the new premises in Haubachstraße 74 is set to enhance the non-profit organization’s ability to serve children, young people, and families across Hamburg.
New Facilities to Bolster Support Services
The new 380-square-meter facility, formerly a tax office, underwent a four-month renovation. It now houses a team of nine psychologists and social pedagogues who provide counseling for cases of domestic violence. The city of Hamburg is covering the majority of the renovation costs, contributing approximately 250,000 Euros towards the project. Previously, the Child Protection Center was located in Emilienstraße in Eimsbüttel for 27 years.
A Long-Standing Commitment to Child Welfare
The Child Protection Association has been a cornerstone of support for vulnerable families in Hamburg for over three decades. Their dedicated work addresses the critical issue of violence within families, offering a safe haven and professional guidance to those in need. The relocation to Altona signifies a strategic move to modernize and expand their operational capacity, ensuring that more families can access their vital services.
The Impact of the Relocation and Expansion
The increased space and improved facilities at the Altona location are expected to allow the center to handle a greater volume of cases and offer a wider range of therapeutic and counseling services. This expansion comes at a time when awareness and reporting of domestic violence are increasingly important, highlighting the ongoing need for robust support systems for children and families.
The city’s financial contribution underscores the importance placed on child protection services by local authorities. This partnership between the municipality and the Child Protection Association is crucial for sustaining and developing effective interventions against family violence.
Community and Accessibility
The choice of Altona for the new center’s location also aims to improve accessibility for residents in different parts of Hamburg, ensuring that geographical barriers do not prevent families from seeking help. The center’s continued presence and expansion are vital for the well-being of the community, providing a critical resource for prevention, intervention, and recovery from the trauma of violence.
The opening ceremony was attended by local officials and representatives from various social welfare organizations, all emphasizing the collective commitment to safeguarding children and supporting families in crisis. The Child Protection Center remains a beacon of hope for many, and its new home in Altona is poised to further strengthen its impact on the lives of Hamburg’s most vulnerable residents.
