Hamburg Donation Parliament Celebrates 30th Anniversary, Allocates Record-Breaking Sum
Hamburg, March 20 – The Hamburg Donation Parliament, founded almost 30 years ago, held its jubilee session on Thursday evening at the Körber Foundation in Hafencity. The session saw a record amount of over one million euros allocated to social projects. This marks the first time such a substantial sum has been distributed in a single session.
A significant new development for the 30th anniversary was the approval of multi-year funding for two social projects. One of these initiatives is a new medical practice by the Diakonisches Werk, dedicated to serving homeless and unhoused individuals in the Münzviertel area near the main train station. This project will receive more than 430,000 euros.
Focus on Aid for Homeless Individuals
The second project to receive multi-year funding is a new cultural and educational center in Wilhelmsburg, operated by the Lüttville association, which will receive over 260,000 euros. Stephan Reimers, the former state pastor who initiated the Donation Parliament in 1996, was a visibly moved guest at Thursday’s event.
For an annual contribution of 60 euros, all members of the association have the right to decide which social projects receive funding. A central focus of the parliament’s activities remains assistance for homeless people.
The Hamburg Donation Parliament’s commitment to social welfare has grown significantly over three decades.
