Potsdam (dpa/bb) – Fresh asphalt, cleared of roots, or more space for cyclists: Several kilometers of cycle paths in Brandenburg are currently being renovated and are scheduled to be completed by summer at the latest. This season, several maintenance and expansion projects are underway, as announced by the Ministry for Infrastructure and State Planning.
Extensive Renovation Projects Across Brandenburg
A five-kilometer stretch along Federal Highway 102 in Havelland is being widened. Between Premnitz and Rathenow, the path for cyclists will then be 2.50 meters wide. Subsequently, the cycle path through the town of Mögelin will be repaired. All work is expected to be completed by July.
Asphalt Milling in Oder-Spree
Along Federal Highway 246 in the Oder-Spree district, the asphalt surface has been milled since the beginning of March. The cycle path between Storkow and Wendisch Rietz will receive a new base and top layer, according to the Ministry. The five-kilometer stretch should be open for cycling again by mid-May.
New Construction and Root Damage Repair in Havelland
Completely new cycle paths are being built along State Road 202 and 20 in the Havelland district, expected to be finished by the end of May. These sections were so severely damaged by roots that they need to be reinforced to prevent further root intrusion. The new paths will cover approximately 2.7 kilometers from the roundabout with L202 and Brieselang to the junction with L201, and along L20 between Falkensee and Schönwalde.
Brandenburg’s Extensive Cycle Path Network
According to the Ministry, Brandenburg’s cycle path network along federal and state roads spans approximately 2,100 kilometers. Additionally, there are numerous tourist cycle paths.
These comprehensive renovations aim to significantly improve the cycling infrastructure in Brandenburg, enhancing safety and comfort for both local commuters and tourists.
