Frühlingsfest in Munich: Your Comprehensive Guide to the 2026 Spring Festival

The Munich Frühlingsfest, also known as the ‘Little Oktoberfest,’ has officially kicked off on the Theresienwiese, marking the start of spring festivities in the city. With an extended celebration period of three weeks this year, in honor of its 60th anniversary, visitors have ample time to enjoy the rides, food, and special events.

Christian Scharpf (SPD), the Head of Economic Affairs, tapped the first barrel in the Hippodrom festival tent, officially opening the festival under sunny skies. The festival grounds are now bustling with activity, with beer steins being filled and rides in full swing.

Key Events and Special Offers for the First Week:

  • Saturday, April 18: BRK Giant Flea Market
    • Time: From 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
    • Details: Located next to the Frühlingsfest grounds, this traditional flea market is one of Bavaria’s largest, featuring approximately 2,500 stalls across more than 80,000 square meters. A perfect opportunity for treasure hunting.
  • Sunday, April 19: 60 Minutes – 60 Cents (New this year!)
    • Time: 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
    • Details: To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the Frühlingsfest organizers are offering a special deal. For one hour, all carousels and children’s rides can be enjoyed for just 60 cents. Selected other rides and stalls will also participate, along with special culinary offers at food stands.
  • Tuesday, April 21: Stroll Day (Bummeltag)

  • Friday, April 24: Grand Brilliant Fireworks Display
    • Time: Approximately 10:00 PM
    • Details: The Frühlingsfest is known for its impressive fireworks, and this year features two displays. The Brilliant Fireworks will illuminate the sky with special effects, culminating in a glowing ’60’ to mark the anniversary.
  • Sunday, April 26: ACM Oldtimer Meeting
    • Time: From 9:00 AM
    • Details: Celebrating its 20th anniversary, this event will feature numerous classic cars (up to model year 1996) rolling onto the festival grounds, including historic police and fire department vehicles.

Stable Beer Prices and Weather Forecast:

Despite rising costs in many areas, visitors will be pleased to know that beer prices at the Frühlingsfest remain stable. For example, a liter of Augustiner Helles at the Festhalle Bayernland costs 13.50 Euros.

The festival started with glorious sunshine and mild temperatures around 19 degrees Celsius. Saturday is expected to reach up to 20 degrees Celsius. The forecast for the coming week suggests mixed weather with occasional rain showers, but also sunny spells, with temperatures remaining pleasant between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius. Towards the end of the week, more stable and sunny weather is expected, perfect for extended visits.

How to Get There:

The Frühlingsfest is held on the Theresienwiese, easily accessible by public transport. We recommend using the U-Bahn (underground) lines U4 or U5 to the Theresienwiese station, or various tram and bus lines that stop nearby.

Important Tips for Visitors:

  • Plan your visit: Check the daily program for special events and offers.
  • Public Transport: Use Munich’s excellent public transport system to avoid parking difficulties.
  • Dress for the weather: Be prepared for both sun and potential rain showers.
  • Cash: While many stalls accept cards, it’s always good to have some cash on hand.
  • Family-friendly: The festival offers numerous attractions for children, especially on Family Days and during the ’60 Minutes – 60 Cents’ promotion.

Don’t miss out on this year’s extended Frühlingsfest, packed with special events and traditional Bavarian charm!
