Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for “Gänsemarkt Höfe” in Hamburg
Hamburg, September 28 – A significant step was taken on Monday to address a prominent construction gap in Hamburg’s city center. The groundbreaking ceremony for the “Gänsemarkt Höfe” was held at the Gänsemarkt, on the site previously occupied by the Gänsemarktpassage. This event signals a rapid progression for the project, which had been stalled for several years following the insolvency of René Benko’s Signa Group.
New Life for a Prime Location
Located between Dammtor and the Binnenalster, the “Gänsemarkt Höfe” are set to feature a mix of offices, retail spaces, and gastronomy. While residential units were initially part of the plan, project developer Quantum declined to comment on their inclusion when questioned by NDR Hamburg on Monday.
Significant Investment and Future Vision
The HanseMerkur Grundvermögen and Quantum are collaborating on this ten-story building, with a substantial investment in the triple-digit million euro range. During the groundbreaking ceremony, a time capsule was embedded, containing current newspapers and detailed information about the construction project, intended for future generations.
The “Gänsemarkt Höfe” are slated for completion by the end of 2028, promising a revitalized presence in the heart of Hamburg.
Senator Dressel Expresses Confidence
Hamburg’s Finance Senator, Andres Dressel (SPD), attended the groundbreaking and expressed optimism regarding the project’s timeline. “They have done excellent preparatory work, and usually, once things get going, they progress quite quickly. Therefore, I am confident that this will also proceed as planned,” said Dressel.
Closing a Long-Standing Gap
The plot of land was acquired by Hansemerkur Grundvermögen following the insolvency of the Signa Group. The company has now secured a project developer to bring the vision of the “Gänsemarkt Höfe” to fruition, effectively closing a significant gap in Hamburg’s urban landscape.
