Hamburg Records 15 Femicide Cases Since Early 2025
Hamburg, June 3, 2026 – Fifteen cases of completed or attempted femicides have been documented in Hamburg since the beginning of last year, as revealed in a response from the Senate to a query by the Left Party in the Bürgerschaft. The Senate’s list includes incidents such as the death of a woman in Groß Borstel in January 2025, who was beaten, strangled, and stabbed in the neck by her husband. Another case involves a son who allegedly stabbed his mother to death and then attempted to kill his stepmother, reportedly suffering from schizophrenia. These are just two examples among the 15 officially recorded cases where women became victims of male violence.
Left Party Criticizes Incomplete Femicide Data
Hila Latifi of the Left Party in the Bürgerschaft categorizes all acts of violence against women as femicides, defining them as cases where women are victimized due to their gender. However, there are differing views on whether all these incidents can be classified as femicides.
Latifi specifically pointed out the omission of the murder of a female writer on her houseboat in April 2025 from the official count. She described the available data as “disappointingly incomplete and misleading,” emphasizing the need for a more comprehensive and accurate understanding of femicide in Hamburg.

According to the Senate, three femicides have already been documented in Hamburg this year (2026).
