Munich, June 2, 2026 – A significant work by the Spanish artist Joan Miró is set to go under the hammer in Munich. The painting, titled ‘Peinture’ from 1936, originates from a private collection in Monaco and is expected to achieve a multi-million Euro valuation.
Karl & Faber to Auction Key Miró Work
The Munich auction house Karl & Faber announced that it will offer the Miró painting in mid-June. According to the auction house, ‘Peinture’ is considered one of the most important Miró works to be presented on the German auction market in over 25 years.
The auction of this particular piece will take place on the first day of the ‘Moderne Kunst, Post War & Contemporary Art’ auctions, scheduled for June 11 and 12. The estimated value for the painting is between 2.0 and 2.5 million Euros.
Experimental Techniques in Miró’s Work
Miró (1893-1983) is known for his experimental approach to art. According to Karl & Faber, ‘Peinture’ showcases the artist’s use of various materials, including oil, tar, and sand, applied to a hardboard panel, reflecting his innovative artistic methods during that period.
Extensive Auction Featuring Modern and Contemporary Art
In total, the auctions will feature approximately 310 works spanning Classical Modernism, Post-War, and Contemporary Art. This comprehensive collection offers a wide range of artistic expressions and historical periods.
Featured Highlights Beyond Miró
Among the other notable highlights of the auction is the work ‘Zwei Mädchen an einem Birkenstamm stehend’ (Two Girls Standing by a Birch Trunk) by the painter Paula Modersohn-Becker. This tempera work, created around 1902, is independently valued by the auction house at 300,000 to 400,000 Euros, further enriching the diverse offerings of the event.
The auctions are anticipated to draw significant attention from collectors and art enthusiasts globally, given the rarity and importance of the featured artworks, particularly the Miró painting.
The event underscores Munich’s role as a prominent center for the international art market, attracting high-value pieces and discerning buyers from around the world.
