Hamburg, September 5 – Grapes were harvested on Saturday at the Stintfang vineyard, one of Germany’s northernmost, situated above the Landungsbrücken. The harvest aims to produce the first “Hamburg Stintfang Red Wine” since the vineyard’s clearing in 2019. However, the yield is uncertain due to unexpected losses.

According to one of the vintners, the projected yield looked more promising two weeks ago. Unfortunately, there have been significant losses due to people stealing grapes from the vineyard. The harvested Regent grapes are intended to produce the first “Hamburg Stintfang Red Wine” since the vineyard was cleared in 2019. The grapes will be transported to Stuttgart for further processing. The “Stintfang” wine is not available for commercial sale. The small quantity produced is primarily given as gifts to guests of the Hamburg Parliament or auctioned for charitable causes.

The 500-square-meter vineyard, originally established in 1995, was completely cleared seven years ago due to the renovation of the U-Bahn station. In 2022, 99 new grapevines were planted. Last year, these vines were still too young to produce a sufficient harvest, with the limited grapes being used to make jelly.
The vintner anticipates that the yield will increase year by year. Unlike previous vintages before the clearing, there are no plans for a Cuvée this time; only red wine made from the Regent grape variety will be produced.
