Goretzka’s Premier League Move Confirmed: A New Chapter for the Ex-Bayern Star
After an extensive search, Leon Goretzka has officially joined Aston Villa in the English Premier League. The 31-year-old midfielder, who spent eight years at FC Bayern Munich, will embark on his first international club experience with the Europa League winners. Aston Villa announced the transfer on Thursday, August 27, 2026, marking a new chapter for the 73-time German international.
FC Bayern had previously confirmed in January that Goretzka’s contract would not be extended. Over the past months, Goretzka had been linked with several prominent clubs, including FC Barcelona, Arsenal, Juventus Turin, AC Milan, and SSC Napoli, but none of these potential moves materialized until the Aston Villa agreement.
Further Departures and Loan Deals at FC Bayern
Goretzka’s exit is part of a series of significant transfer activities at FC Bayern. The club has also confirmed the loan of Bryan Zaragoza to Espanyol Barcelona for the upcoming season. Zaragoza, who joined Bayern in winter 2024 from FC Granada, had previously been loaned to CA Osasuna, Celta Vigo, and AS Roma after making only seven appearances for the Munich side.
Another young talent, 17-year-old offensive player Wisdom Mike, has been permanently transferred to Belgian club Club Brugge for a reported fee of five million euros plus bonuses. Mike, who joined Bayern from Borussia Mönchengladbach’s youth academy in 2022, signed a contract with Brugge until 2029.
