Further Investigations into Viennese ‘Miracle Healer’ in Munich
Munich, August 11 – A 32-year-old woman from Vienna, who allegedly posed as a ‘miracle healer’ with connections to the afterlife, is now linked to more fraud cases in the Bavarian capital than previously known. Investigations are currently underway in ‘more than five cases,’ a spokeswoman for the Munich Police Headquarters told APA on Tuesday. The fraud victims are ‘consistently older, single individuals,’ predominantly women.
The accused reportedly approached them in front of churches or in parks, using phrases like ‘You have a beautiful aura,’ but unfortunately, it was burdened by ‘negative chakras.’ She offered to help with ‘spiritual cleansing.’
Frequent Visits from Vienna
The 32-year-old was apprehended last week in Munich city center. She is alleged to have taken a five-figure sum from an impaired 29-year-old Munich woman since spring 2021, promising her ‘spiritual help.’ Prior to this, she had led the victim to believe she could communicate with a deceased relative. According to police, the accused traveled from Vienna to Munich three to four times a year to meet with the fraud victim. The fraudulent activities only came to light when a caregiver for the 29-year-old checked her bank statements and inquired about the transactions, the police spokeswoman stated.
As yet, there is no information regarding a possible connection between the accused, who has been held in a German correctional facility since her arrest on August 6, and a case of occult fraud in Austria. Several individuals allegedly involved in the Austrian case have already been convicted – some not yet definitively – assets worth millions have been seized, and a relative classified by investigators as the main perpetrator (‘Shaman Amela’), who is still at large, has been put on a wanted list.
‘Investigations are ongoing, and further details cannot be provided at this time for tactical reasons,’ the Munich police emphasized regarding a possible connection. ‘So far, no link to the cases in Austria has been established.’
Victims Targeted in Public Places
The alleged ‘miracle healer’ reportedly used a consistent modus operandi, targeting vulnerable individuals in public spaces. The police spokeswoman confirmed that the suspect would engage victims with seemingly innocuous compliments before introducing the concept of ‘negative chakras’ and offering her ‘spiritual cleansing’ services for a fee. This tactic allowed her to establish a rapport and exploit the trust of her predominantly elderly and single victims.
Financial Exploitation Over Extended Periods
The case involving the 29-year-old Munich woman highlights the prolonged nature of the alleged fraud. The suspect’s repeated visits to Munich over several years underscore a calculated and persistent effort to extract money from her victims. The significant financial losses incurred by the victims, amounting to five-figure sums, emphasize the severity of the alleged crimes and the impact on those affected.
The Role of Vigilance and Caregivers
The discovery of the fraud in the 29-year-old’s case through the vigilance of her caregiver highlights the importance of support networks for vulnerable individuals. The regular monitoring of financial activities by caregivers or trusted family members can be crucial in detecting and preventing such exploitative schemes. This incident serves as a reminder for individuals and their families to be cautious of unsolicited offers of spiritual or healing services, especially when they involve significant financial transactions.
Ongoing Investigations and Potential Broader Implications
The Munich police’s statement that investigations are ongoing in ‘more than five cases’ suggests that the scale of the alleged fraud may be larger than initially perceived. While a direct link to the Austrian occult fraud cases has not yet been established, the similarities in the nature of the alleged crimes indicate a potential broader pattern of exploitation. The police’s cautious approach to releasing further details is typical in complex fraud investigations, where information can be critical to securing convictions and identifying additional victims.
The case serves as a warning to the public, particularly elderly and single individuals, to be wary of individuals offering spiritual or miraculous solutions to personal problems in exchange for money. Authorities encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of similar scams to come forward and report the incident to the police.
