Munich Sports Festival 2026: Königsplatz Transforms into Sports Arena

Munich, May 7, 2026 – Königsplatz is once again set to become a lively sports arena. On Sunday, July 5, from 10 AM to 6 PM, the square will be entirely dedicated to sports, movement, and discovery. Last year, around 40,000 visitors attended, making the Munich Sports Festival one of Germany’s most vibrant sporting events.

The 15th edition of this popular event, organized by the Department of Education and Sport, promises a diverse range of movement, participation, and competition experiences for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Together with clubs and partners, nearly 80 sports activities can be tried out for free, without registration or personal equipment. Options range from high ropes courses to pickleball, football to trampolining, climbing to medieval combat. A varied stage program will also entertain attendees.

Highlights and Diverse Offerings

Key attractions include Germany’s largest Ninja competition, “Minga Warrior,” the Trickline Worldcup featuring spectacular tricks and jumps on the five-centimeter-wide line, the Street Floorball Tour, the Munich Streetsoccer Cup, and a Breakdance Battle.

Sports Officer Florian Kraus emphasized the festival’s unique diversity: “The special thing about the Munich Sports Festival is its variety. Between classic club sports, inclusive offers, trend, fun, and niche sports, a space is created where you can just let yourself go. A few steps further, you might already be on a slackline, holding a floorball stick, or trying your hand at skimboarding. The Munich Sports Festival is not about performance, but about access. Many people discover sports here that they would never have tried otherwise.”

More Than Sport: Encounter, Community, Participation

The Sports Festival is deliberately designed to break down barriers. Trainers, club members, and volunteers demonstrate, explain, and motivate. Over 50 clubs and initiatives will present their offerings, making Königsplatz a reflection of Munich’s sports landscape. For clubs, the festival also provides an opportunity to attract new members. One club that is once again taking the opportunity to draw attention to its sport is Disc Golf Munich e.V.

Disc Golf: From Insider Tip to Hands-On Experience

A disc flies, clinks against a metal basket that catches it with chains, and suddenly people who didn’t know each other moments before are cheering. Such moments arise in Disc Golf. At the Munich Sports Festival, this niche sport has long been an insider tip with addictive potential. It works similarly to golf, but without clubs and balls. Players use special throwing discs that are meant to land in a basket with as few throws as possible. “The beauty of Disc Golf is the learning curve. You usually have initial successes quickly,” reports Boris Eickhoff, 2nd Chairman of the club. “At the same time, this sport has hardly any hurdles: you only need sneakers and a disc for 15 to 20 euros. Many courses are freely accessible, and it’s often played simply in the park, with friends, outdoors in the fresh air.”
