Oktoberfest 2026: New Official Mug with Historic Motif Unveiled
Munich, July 13, 2026 – The countdown has officially begun for the 191st Munich Oktoberfest, with just 68 days remaining until the traditional “O’zapft is!” cry. A significant symbol of the world-renowned festival, the beer mug, takes center stage once again. It plays a pivotal role during the tapping ceremony when the first liter is presented to the state premier, and continues to be a central feature throughout the entire Oktoberfest, with approximately seven million glass mugs filled and emptied annually.

A particularly coveted collector’s item is the official mug of the Munich Wiesn Innkeepers, which undergoes a redesign each year. This year’s edition was proudly unveiled at the beer garden at the Chinese Tower.
Peter Inselkammer, spokesperson for the innkeepers, stated, “This year, we have chosen a particularly beautiful, nostalgic motif that we are confident will be well-received by collectors.” Christian Schottenhamel added, “Our mug is, as always, strictly limited. It can be purchased online or, of course, in all the large festival tents during the Wiesn.”
A Glimpse into Oktoberfest’s Past
The main motif of this year’s innkeepers’ mug, a tradition since 2002, is a historical scene. It depicts celebrating Munich residents who, at that time, still drank their beer from stone mugs – a tradition that was discontinued in 1955. The motif showcases many guests dressed in traditional Tracht, alongside elegantly dressed visitors, including a lady with a stole and several gentlemen in ties and suits.
Above and below this central scene, the symbols of the 15 large Wiesn tents are featured. These include a hop cone with a crown for the Hofbräuhaus, a crossbow, and a white ram, among other distinctive emblems.
