Thalkirchen Campsite Restaurant Reopens After Extensive Renovation in Munich
Munich, August 10 – The restaurant at the Thalkirchen campsite has finally reopened after a two-and-a-half-year renovation period. The grand reopening is being celebrated with a large summer festival, welcoming guests to a new ‘Bavarian Beachclub’ experience.
‘Isarflimmern’: A New Gastronomic Hub at the Floßlände
The newly renovated restaurant, named “Isarflimmern” by campsite manager Klaus Bartl, is located directly on the Floßlände. Bartl, 59, is also making his debut this year as a Wiesn host. The concept behind “Isarflimmern” is a blend of modern design and traditional elements, paying homage to the historical significance of the area where rafters from the Upper Bavarian region once docked in Munich.
A striking feature of the new establishment is its modern spruce wood facade with tree-like struts. Inside, wood dominates the interior, further reinforcing the connection to the region’s rafting tradition. Bartl plans to install a twelve-meter-long image of the Karwendel mountains above the counter, symbolizing the source of the Isar River.
Biergarten and Lände-Lounge Offer Unique Riverside Experience
The outdoor area boasts a completed beer garden with 150 seats. Along the water, sun loungers in the ‘Lände-Lounge’ await guests, offering a relaxed atmosphere. Just 50 meters away, Munich’s second surf wave provides an additional attraction. Bartl enthusiastically stated, “The beer garden is an absolute gem. For me, there is no more beautiful place by the water in Munich.”
Munich residents have the opportunity to experience this firsthand at the summer festival, scheduled from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The festival will feature grilled specialties such as sausages, pork neck, and vegetables, along with homemade pizza and Augustiner beer from a wooden barrel. Musical entertainment will be provided by the “Wuidara Pistols,” known from the Wiesn tent Zur Bratwurst.
Campsite Renovation Faces Delays
Despite the successful restaurant opening, Bartl expressed concerns about the ongoing renovation of the Thalkirchen campsite itself. Out of 450 pitches, only 200 are currently available to guests due to the 15-million-euro construction project. “It is very regrettable that we have such a delay there,” Bartl commented.
The municipal company MRG, which leases the site to Bartl, stated that “the work at Thalkirchen campsite largely corresponds to the plans and the deadlines in the lease agreement.”
Bartl’s Busy Schedule: Campsite, Restaurant, and Wiesn
Klaus Bartl, in partnership with Christian Erhardt, operates the Thalkirchen campsite. His current schedule is demanding, balancing the new restaurant, the campsite renovation, and his first venture as a Wiesn host with his small tent, “Flößerstadl.” The construction of the “Flößerstadl” is progressing rapidly, with the guest room already standing and the screed for the kitchen expected this week.
Bartl admits to the intensity of this period, stating, “It’s an extremely intense time. I have butterflies in my stomach – and my pants are full.” After the summer festival, he plans to dedicate more time to overseeing the Wiesn tent construction.
