Two Men Arrested After Shootings Outside Harburg Drug Aid Center, One Detained

Hamburg, July 2 – Police have arrested two men in connection with recent shootings outside the Abrigado drug aid center in Hamburg-Harburg. A 46-year-old man has been remanded in custody. The arrests follow repeated gunfire incidents in front of the facility, which is located near two schools.

Detectives from the drug and violent crime departments conducted searches of three apartments in Hamburg and the Harburg district on Tuesday, police announced on Thursday. Special forces (SEK) were deployed during the operations. Two men were initially taken into temporary custody. A judge has since issued an arrest warrant for the 46-year-old, who is now in pre-trial detention. Police stated that it is still unclear whether he is the shooter, and investigations are ongoing.

A 31-year-old man was released after police measures were completed. During the searches, officers also seized two firearms, several mobile phones, small quantities of drugs, and approximately 34,000 euros in cash.

Repeated Shootings Near Abrigado Facility

In mid-June, a 45-year-old man was shot and seriously injured on Schwarzenbergstrasse in Heimfeld. This incident occurred in the immediate vicinity of Abrigado, as well as the ‘Schule am Park’ and the ‘Regionales Bildungs- und Beratungszentrum (ReBBZ) Harburg’. Just a few days prior, unknown individuals had fired at least four shots in the same area. According to media reports, projectiles were subsequently found embedded in trees and a park bench. No injuries were reported in that earlier incident.

The location of the Abrigado drug aid facility, situated between two schools, has long been a subject of criticism. The Harburg district assembly has called for the relocation of the addiction support center, citing concerns about safety and the proximity to educational institutions.

Background: Concerns and Previous Incidents

The repeated incidents of gunfire have heightened concerns among local residents and authorities regarding public safety in the area. The proximity of the drug aid center to schools has been a particular point of contention, with calls for its relocation gaining momentum after these recent events.
